The following information is for coaches who attended the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Coaching Clinic, May 8-9, 2014.



This message is for all coaches that attended the Introduction to Competition – Position Coach Clinic at Investors Group Field on May 9, 10 2014. As discussed at the Clinic you only received a portion of the training required to complete the course. There are 2 scenarios that resulted from the clinic depending on whether you attended the clinic on May 9, 10 or if you only attended the May 9 in class portion only.

Scenario 1: Attended the in class portion on May 9th only.

You must attend an Introduction to Competition – Position Coach Clinic to finish your in-class and practical training. The available dates/locations of clinics are posted on the Football Manitoba website. You will be required to attend the afternoon sessions on Saturday and all day Sunday (if you wish you can attend both full days). “See sample of clinic schedule below” You must register at the Football Manitoba office prior to the clinic. Please indicate which position group you wish to learn (Indicate a primary and secondary selection when you register as not all positions may be available) on Sunday afternoon. There will be a cost of $100.00 per coach to attend the clinic which includes the cost of the on field evaluation.

Day 1 (PM only)

  1. Analyzing Performance                                      45 mins                                                                  12:45 PM – 1:30 PM

  2. Can tie into teaching and learning

  3. Offensive Systems (coaches chose O or D)     90 mins                                                  1:30 PM – 3:00 PM

  4. Develop an example run and pass play

  5. In small groups of 3-4 have coaches design 1 run and 1 pass play


i.      (Depending on time have 2-3 groups present)

  1. Position group skill requirements based on your system

  2. Ensure skill development at position group matches the system

  3. Defensive Systems (coaches chose O or D)    90 mins                                                 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM

  4. Develop an example run and pass defense.

  5. In small groups of 3-4 have coaches design a defense to defend


i.      1 run play and 1 pass play LF to provide an example run and pass

ii.      play for the exercise (depending on time have 2-3 groups present

  1. Practice Planning                                                 90 mins                                                                  3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

  2. What is an EAP

  3. Safe practice planning

  4. Age and skill level appropriate practice planning

  5. Developing a practice plan


 

Day 2:

  1. Safe Contact                                                          4 hrs                                                                       8:00 PM – 12:00 PM

  2. Tackling progression – Practical


i.      Coaches must do drills – 4-6 coaches per group

ii.      Coaches will take rotate through turns leading the drill

  1. Blocking progression – Theory

  2. Blocking progression – Practical


i.      Coaches must do drills – 4-6 coaches per group

ii.      Coaches will take rotate through turns leading the drill

  1. Lunch                                                                     30 mins                                                  12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

  2. Position Specific Skills                                         4 hrs                                                       12:30 PM – 4:30 PM

  3. Players available to demo with if possible.

  4. Coaches sign up for a specific position prior to clinic

  5. Must provide position coaches with course outline for this section

  6. Coaches must do drills and coach the drills at every opportunity


 

Scenario 2: Attended the in class portion on May 9th and the on-field portion on May 10th.
