Dear Valued Football Community Members,

You are being asked to complete a survey on concussions in football that is part of a research study being conducted by members of the Pan Am Clinic Foundation and the University of Manitoba. This research has been approved by the University of Manitoba Health Research Ethics Board. Please click through for the links.

The Football Manitoba Board of Directors approved Football Manitoba and our members' participation in this study as it will allow us to continue striving for improved player safety in the game of football. We are asking all players, coaches and parents in the province to help complete this important research. The purpose of this study is to determine the incidence rate of concussions in football, your knowledge with respect to concussions, and how players make their way through the health care system for treatment of concussions.

Despite the increased attention that concussions in sport have received over the past few years, the knowledge, attitudes and opinions of players, coaches, and parents is relatively unknown. Similarly, little information exists on how amateur players, suspected of having a concussion, make their way through the medical system. In an effort to answer these questions, the Pan Am Clinic Foundation, with the support of Football Manitoba, is attempting to reach out to all of the amateur football players, coaches and parents in the province to conduct an important research survey. A high response rate is imperative to gathering this important information. Our goal is to develop a clinical program for players that have sustained a concussion and to gain insight into the most effective manner to educate players, coaches and parents about concussions.
