To open up the trio of gold medal contests, Quebec captured gold in the U-16 girls division with a 29-28 victory in dramatic fashion. With both teams unable to break a 25-25 tie at the end of regulation time, the score was settled with an overtime shootout that lasted 10 rounds. Each round both teams were given an opportunity to score a single point. The teams matched each other, scoring in the second, fifth and seventh rounds to knot the score up at 28. After Manitoba was unable to score with their 10th round possession, Quebec sealed the 29-28 victory as quarterback Shanel Turgeon connected with Marie-Frédérique Poulin in the end zone.
