by Corey Weir

Team Canada’s U18 team beat up on Team USA, in the International Bowl Game Series, winning 25-9 on Friday night. This is the second straight year Team Canada bested the American squad. The game was played at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Team USA was the team that jumped out to the early lead, leading by three after the first quarter but that didn’t stop Team Canada from going on to score two touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 14-3 at the half. From there the dominance continued for Canada, scoring 11 second half points en route to a 25-9 final.

Manitoba was well represented having four players on the roster and a coach. The four players included, Tristan Bredin (Anola, MB), Mason Bennett (Winnipeg, MB), Randall Sanderson (Winnipeg, MB) and Zackary Williams (Winnipeg, MB). Coach Chris Bochen, recently a coach with the Winnipeg Rifles, was Offensive Line Coach.

Bredin, defensive lineman for Murdoch McKay High School, was one of the leading tacklers for Team Canada, recording four tackles on the day. Bennett, defensive lineman for Vincent Massey High School, recorded three tackles of his own and also got to the quarterback with a sack.

Sanderson and Williams, both offensive linemen, did and impressive job protecting the quarterback, with no sacks given up in the entire game. As for rushing the ball, Team Canada amassed 133 yards on the ground, thanks to the big guys up front.

Congratulations to the five gentlemen that represented Manitoba and the entire Canadian team on being victorious.
